Laurel is on the move!
When Laurel squirms in pain or struggles to sit up I am reminded that she went through a “major surgery.” Most of the time she is pushing through the pain, distracted, sleeping, hungry, or something I don’t know about.
But we have been going for walks. The only medical inconvenience she is left with is her IV, which is there for precautionary reasons only. She is actually on track for an early discharge, but we are not there yet and a discharge would mean sleeping far from our little ones, and sometimes I think I’d rather sleep on the hospital steps.
With movement comes food, and with food comes our celebratory meal! Laurel ordered “the good stuff” and we made a table and watched the sunset whilst enjoying a relatively normal moment. It all sort of feels like my first trip to Japan - everything is quiet, clean, and organized. I am crazy tired, my room is tiny, and I know this is where I am supposed to be, but I am also very lost.
Laurel and I fell in love chasing sunsets in San Diego, so it was a moment of zen to enjoy our sparkling cider and beef brick while the sun set over the pacific.
